All great religions were at one point of time cults. Those that get sufficient mass following and stand the test of time evolve into religions and those that don't are called cults. Although there may be exceptions to this this rule.

Heavens Gate Cult Full Documentary - Quite possibly the craziest cult ever, Heavens Gate was founded by Marshall Applewhite and Bonnie Nettles. Heaven's Gate members believed that the planet Earth was about to be recycled (wiped clean, renewed, refurbished and rejuvenated), and that the only chance to survive was to leave it immediately.
This video describes the events that lead up to the Jonestown massacre. It describes the cult members thoughts, as well as how Jim Jones interacted with them. I found it very interesting, and feel that it should be mandatory viewing for all persons belonging to any group or club where there is a dominant leader or leadership.

This is a 20/20 expose on Satanism, Devil Worship, and the Occult. I personally feel that the prevalence and danger of such groups has been overblown and sensationalized by other faiths with a vested interest in demonizing these groups, no pun intended.
