A stunning island famed for its crystal-clear waters and beautiful palm tree-lined beaches, Koh Samui is the haunt of mega-wealthy Hollywood celebrities. Here are five things to do while on a visit.

1

Visit the famous Big Buddha Temple

Easily one the most famous and best known of all the landmarks in Koh Samui, the Big Buddha temple sits off the corner of this tiny island. Locally the temple is known as Wat Phra Yai, and is connected to the main island by a little causeway. This place of worship is known for its 12-meter-tall seated statue of the Lord Buddha and depicts a time when the Buddha was rejecting all lures that were forced upon him. The attraction can also be reached easily from many a resort Koh in Samui by popular hotel chains such as Avani Hotels & Resorts.

2

Swim at the base of the Namuang waterfall

Nestled amidst thick and luscious tropical jungle, Namuang waterfalls is well worth the visit. There are two waterfalls known as Na Muang 1 and Na Muang 2. The first fall flows into a small pool, where visitors can swim after the hike to get to this location. The second waterfall is located uphill, thirty minutes away, and is equally stunning. Entrance to the waterfall is completely free of charge. A visit definitely makes for a change of scenery from the usual beach visits.

3

Experience the tranquility of the Secret Buddha Garden

The secret Buddha Garden is a privately-owned garden, that was first started back in 1976 by Nim Thonhsuk. The garden is hidden away in the center of Koh Samui and is surrounded by lush forests, and features many beautiful statues. The area is extremely tranquil, with a bubbling stream and a stunning waterfall located in the vicinity of the garden. Do note that it's a bit of a challenge to get the garden, as the road leading up to it, is quite steep. From the topmost point of the Secret Buddha Garden, one can enjoy some panoramic vistas of the entire Koh Samui and drink in all its beauty and splendor.

4

Beach time at Chaweng Beach

Known as the hub of Koh Samui, Chaweng Beach is in the largest town on the island. It also happens to be the busiest and most beautiful beach here. Come dusk, the area's nightlife comes alive, with its many bars and restaurants, that cater to everyone. The boardwalk strip spans nearly three kilometers and is a great spot to enjoy music, great food, and cheap drinks. If you are keen on finding someplace more secluded and quieter away from the maddening crowds make your way to the beachfront.
