7 Must-know tips for exploring Bangkok's Grand Palace – Prepare for your insightful visit

It goes without saying how beautiful the Grand Palace in Thailand is and when you visit this breathtaking structure you realise how it is the most visited location in the country. In order to make the best of your visit given below are some tips for you to follow and be informed of.

1

There is a dress code you need to follow

The Grand Palace in Thailand is treated as a religious location similar to the other temples in the country. Remember that you might not be granted access inside, depending on what you are wearing, as visitors should be dressed in clothing that covers their shoulders and knees. Visitors are not allowed to enter wearing any revealing clothes that do not cover the knees and shoulders. Remember to carry a robe or a shawl with you so you are able to cover up before you go to the Grand Palace.

2

Your bag will be checked by security

The Grand Palace is one of the most important places in the country so when you arrive, you will be asked to show the bag at the entrance for security purposes. If you are carrying a backpack or anything larger you can show it at the entrance for clearance.

3

It can get really hot

The weather in Thailand is humid and warm and you must not take it for granted when visiting the Grand Palace as many people are walking around on the premises. It is best to take a hat or an umbrella with you to shade yourself from the sun and if possible wear sunscreen before you go. When wearing clothes remember to wear cotton clothing that is breathable and comfortable on your skin. Keep in mind to drink a lot of water before you go and carry a bottle of water with you for when you are roaming and exploring the Grand Palace.

4

Try to visit in the morning

Choosing the best place to stay in Bangkok can be tricky due to the number of options available in the city. Properties by Maitria Hotels & Residences, should be made note of as they are quite close to the Palace and can be quite convenient too. The best thing to do is to plan your visit to the Grand Palace scheduled for the early morning. The premises are open from 8.30 am to 3.30 pm so plan ahead so you can be there by 8.30 am and be the first before the rest of the tourists arrive.

5

The King does not live at the Grand Temple

Construction for this world-renowned temple started in 1782 and from the time of completion till 1925 this was the home to the royals of the country. At present this building is rarely ever closed off to the public and is used for special occasions of the royal family.

6

Make sure to take a boat

The most common option you will be faced with when going towards the Grand Palace is to take a cab or take the bus but this is going to be tedious and time-consuming due to the enormous crowds that are travelling to the same location as you are and due to the traffic in Bangkok. The best option is to take a boat to the Chang Pier or the Tien Pier.

7

Visit the Emerald Buddha also

Within the premises of the Grand Palace, you will also come across the Temple of the Emerald Buddha which is also known as the Wat Phra Kaew. The temple and this emerald buddha statue have an interesting story where no one knew about this beautiful statue and then it was found many years later by accident. You can learn the full story when you visit this serene location.
