The best wonders of the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage

When in Kandy one of the most popular destinations that many people head towards is the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. It is a brilliant destination for the entire family and the kids are sure to love being able to see entire herds of elephants roaming around freely.
The orphanage currently holds about 90 elephants who reside in a natural habitat alongside smaller baby elephants as well.
For the general public, it is considered as an attraction however the orphanage also serves as a rehabilitation centre for injured elephants as well as those who are abandoned by their herds in the wild. This infrastructure was established in 1975 by the Sri Lanka Department of Wildlife Conservation has been doing a fine job ever since.
