Mihintale

Mihintale is a special place for Sri Lankan Buddhists as it is known as the location where the monk who brought Buddhism was brought to the island came into conversation with the king who helped create awareness of the religion across the island. There are several buildings you can explore in Mihintale and some of these have beautiful buddha statues inside them. Mihintale is a serene and peaceful location to visit if you are looking for a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Jaya Sri Maha Bodiya

The Jaya Sri Maha Bodiya holds a special place in the hearts of all Buddhists from around the world. While visiting Anuradhapura Sri Lanka, you must visit this beautiful Bo tree which is said to be brought to life by a branch from the tree that gave shade for Siduhath Kumaraya to attain enlightenment. Some Buddhist devotees come from around the world to witness this tree throughout the year. Visiting this religious location requires one to be dressed modestly so it is best to take a shawl or a cover-up with you so you can wear it over your shorts or tank top when required.

Ruwanwaliseya

One cannot visit Sri maha Bodhiya and miss out on Ruwanwelisaya as these two are located on the same premises and your visit would be incomplete without the other. The Ruwanwelisaya is a stunning stupa or a pagoda that is held in high regard by all Sri Lankan Buddhists. This structure is supposed to be absolutely stunning when witnessed on a poya holiday a full moon day towards dusk or late night.

Isurumuniya

This is known to be made around 307 to 267 BC and it is amazing how it has been preserved for all these years without having to put much effort into preserving. This temple has a separate room that holds carvings that were done on stone and one of the famous carvings in the Isurumuni Pem Uwala which meals the Isurumuniya Lovers.
