6 Free Sightseeing Tips for Koh Samui – Get the best of Koh Samui!

When it comes to holidaying in Thailand, Koh Samui is one of the most popular destinations to visit in Thailand, offering a number of fun things to do and see. Here are some free things to indulge in!

1

Lat ko Viewpoint

If you want to surround yourself with stunningly blue views all around, Lat Ko Viewpoint is more than ideal, located between Chaweng and Lamai. From this viewpoint, you can enjoy a rare and stunning view over Chaweng Beach and its equally gorgeous surrounding areas! After you indulge in the views, there is a narrow path that leads you down to the rocks beside the beach, which is also a well-known viewpoint to catch the sunrise. If you have the time, there's an ice cream truck at the parking lot of the Lat Ko viewpoint offering some delicious coconut ice cream!

2

Grandmother and Grandfather rock

Located at the southern end of Lamai beach, the rocks Hin Ta and Hin Yai are very popular attractions, and these two rocks are one of the most instagrammable sights in Koh Samui. This location is free to visit, and many locals visit here due to the legend of a married couple once being shipwrecked here, which has led to believe that this spot increases levels of fertility. Don't forget to take your camera with you!

3

Big Buddha Pier

For the ultimate sunrise pictures, Big Buddha Pier located in Bangrak is more than perfect! During the day, the location is extremely busy with a number of your operators and local fishermen, so it isn't ideal for a good time during the day. However, the best time to go is just in time to catch the sunset. Not many beaches in Koh Samui offer a sunset view, except for those on the west coast. Grab a drink at a nearby convenience store and await the awe-inspiring sunset!

4

Wat Plai Laem

Known as one of the more fascinating temples in Koh Samui, Wat Plai Laem is the Chinese Buddha and is mostly worshipped by the Thai-Chinese residents. This location also has a statue of Kuan Yin with 18 arms. An hour away from Avani+ Samui Resort, a very renowned resort in Koh Samui, you will also find a large lake with fish and turtles. You can combine your trip to Wat Plai Laem with the Big Buddha statue located in the Wat Phra Yai temple.

5

Namuang Waterfall 2

This waterfall is one of two Namuang Waterfalls that are popular tourist destinations. At the end of this waterfall, there's a natural pool where you can indulge in a nice, albeit cold swim! If you're up for it, there is the Namuang Safari Park where most people go on an off-road jeep to the waterfall for a small fee, but you can skip this and go directly to the waterfall.

6

Find a secret beach

A great adventure to embark on would be to head away from the tourist beaches where you'll find plenty of unspoilt bays to explore. Samrong Beach and Tongson Bay lay side by side on Samui's northernmost tip, so if you find the time to make a trip that way, you're unlikely to regret it. The powder white sand and crystal clear waters are worth it!
