Tips for Family Travel in Laos – Getting prepared!

If you are planning to head to Laos for a family vacation, there are a couple of things you need to know. Read on to prepare yourself for a family trip to Laos!

1

The weather

The very first aspect you need to consider is the weather, and if it will support your holiday or not. You need to keep in mind that the wet season in Laos is from May to late September; therefore, it is best to plan your holiday during a month where there will be little rain, as this season has storms, typhoons, tropical rain and flooding, which you need to avoid! The dry season runs from October to late April, which is ideal for exploring, dipping in the cool waters, or simply just lazying around in your hotel in Luang Prabang the likes of Avani+ Luang Prabang. Even though you travel during the hot months, it can get quite cold at night so bring appropriate clothes for the evening.

2

Your documents in order

Since travel has changed quite a bit during the pandemic, it is vital that you have all your documents in order. Several countries have varying entry requirements in the light of COVID-19, therefore it is imperative that you go through the tourism/embassy website way in advance and ensure all the formal procedures such as PCR tests, vaccination cards, insurance, are all in order before making further plans. As travel during COVID-19 is rather unpredictable, it is of paramount importance that you also carry with you plenty of masks, hand sanitiser, and even a change of clothes so that you and your family are always clean and hygienic.

3

Follow your kids

You need to understand that Laos is a whole other country and you should not let your kids go alone in strange places, and protect them from any troubles. If you are participating in festivals and water activities, make sure you keep your eye on your kids so that they cannot get lost. Even taking a spare phone with you and getting a temporary local connection and giving it to your kids would be ideal so that they have a way to get in touch with you. You will also need to give them a slip of paper with all emergency numbers ready, just in case the need arises!

4

Plan your itinerary

There are a number of things to do as seen in Laos such as elephant rides, trekking, climbing, tubing, biking along with an idyllic village, resting under the banyan trees and so much more. When you are travelling with children, it is not easy to be spontaneous; therefore, it is best you plan your holiday to the T! You should not miss out on Laos River cruises during your time there, as this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

5

Kid-friendly experiences

While it is easy to get lost in planning a holiday, remember to pick a few activities that your kids will also enjoy. Picking an accommodation that has fun activities for kids will also be a plus, and this way, you can have some alone time as well!
