5 Top-Rated Tourist Attractions in Hong Kong – For the curious traveller

Glamour and glitzy skylines, luxury shopping and fine dining make Hong Kong a modern travel destination. You can drink in elegance, uber modernity and dine on gourmet dim sum. But, what are the most exciting activities you can enjoy in Hong Kong?

1

Check out Victoria Peak (The Peak)

Catch an expansive, bird's eye view of Hong Kong from top of 'The Peak.' You can ride the tram to the top to catch many glimpses of the city, skyscrapers, harbour and surrounding islands. You can find the tram entrance near the entrance to Hong Kong Park close to the Murray building. The entrance is easily accessible from most accommodation options including hotels and even Causeway Bay serviced apartments. For example, the Hotel Purple Hong Kong is located just under 20 minutes from the tram entrance. Once you reach the top of the tower, you'll find the Peak Tower and Peak Galleria both providing access to a number of shops, restaurants and the observation deck. There is an artificial but green and beautiful park with nature trails and mesmerizing lookouts at the top.

2

Ride the star ferry

The star ferry of Hong Kong dates back to 1880, and a ride on it is a chance to see the city in all its glory. Gaze at the green, mountainous backdrop of the busy city as you sail from Kowloon to Hong Kong Island. You'll find a hive of activity in Victoria Harbour with all sorts of vessels navigating the waters. Ferry rides are frequent and there is no need to schedule one beforehand. But, if you go on your star ferry ride in the evening, you can catch Hong Kong's Symphony of Lights show.

3

Go to the Beaches

Hong Kong is not synonymous with beaches as some of the other Asian destinations. But you can still find a lovely stretch of silky sand in Hong Kong at Repulse Bay. You can spend the day by the beach and visit the oceanfront restaurants to sample some inspired cuisine. The Big Wave Bay is another stretch of lovely sand shaped over the years into a U-shaped cove of much tranquillity by the constant flow of water and waves. The vibe at Big Wave Bay is laid-back. Don't think twice about taking a refreshing dip.

4

Go to the Temple Street Night Market

Take a stroll along the Temple Street Night Market to grab some street food, shop for some gifts to take home at bargain prices and enjoy the bazaar type atmosphere. You can find traditional Chinese crafts, jade jewellery and all sorts of trinkets and gadgets. Don't forget to sample some of the eclectic food.

5

Pay a visit to Disneyland

Located in Lantau Island, Disneyland Hong Kong offers 7 adventure lands to Disney fans. There is Adventure land, Toy Story land, Fantasy land, Mystic point, Main Street, U.S.A and Tomorrowland. If you are travelling with kids take them to see the Castle of Magical Dreams where musical shows and extravaganzas take place. One of the latest additions to Disney Hong Kong is Frozen, where Olaf and Sven pull you to the top of the hill and let you slide down in a glorious swoop.
