5 Things To Do In Pasikuda - Explore the beautiful Pasikudah

Pasikudah is a beautiful beach city that started gaining attention after the civil war in the country ended and now it is one of the best places to visit when you are in Sri Lanka.

1

Experience Pigeon Island in Trincomalee

Pigeon Island which is about 3 hours from Pasikudah is one of the most popular attractions in the area. This stunning beach got its name due to the large group of migratory birds that call this island home during different months of the year. While it is popular among those who wish to go bird watching, it is also a popular place for those who love snorkelling and diving as there is so much marine life to be explored in the area. If you are visiting Pasikudah during the season which falls from June to October you will be able to go snorkelling and diving with colourful fish, stingrays and even turtles. Most Pasikuda hotels such as Maalu Maalu Resort & Spa are located about 3 hours from Pigeon Island, so guests can make a visit during the day to experience this stunning location.

2

Explore the Dutch Fort

The Dutch Fort in Pasikudah is another popular attraction among foreigners and locals alike. While the Dutch Fort is an example and reminder of the changes the country endeared during the colonial time, it also contributes to some stunning photos of the area. While walking on the fort you will also be able to see breathtaking views of the Pasikudah beach, the surrounding sea and the city all at once as the Dutch fort is built on the edge of the city creating higher ground.

3

Explore the city on a bicycle

You will find many locals travelling on bicycles which is their main mode of transport and this has now been developed into an excursion where visitors can explore the Pasikudah city on a bicycle. Many hotels and resorts have bicycles that can be rented by guests so that they can explore the city at leisure.

Visit temples and kovils

Pasikudah is a good example of a city that has cultural balance as there are Buddhist temples as well as Hindu Kovils that you can visit while you are exploring around Pasikudah. The city is located in the East of the island, which was the area that was exposed to the civil war that took place for nearly three decades; but now since that is all in the past restoration has taken place and you can look at the city for the beauty it beholds. If you are someone who enjoys learning and experiencing cultural and traditional aspects of a city you can take part in the Buddhist temple rituals as well as the religious rituals that take place in the kovil during prayer times,
