Top things to do in Hong Kong -Some of the best ways to immerse in the city.

Other than the luxury shopping Hong Kong is famous for, there are so many things to do here! Go explore some of the beautiful beaches, fishing villages, temples, and forested mountains trails.

1

Tian Tan Buddha Statue (Big Buddha)

This seated statue of the Buddha is 34 meters in height. It rests above the Po Lin monastery on Lantau Island and is one of the largest seated Buddha statues in the world! The proportions of the statue are awe-inspiring. The surroundings are also beautiful, encircled by lush forests and overlooking the sea. The Buddha statue can be reached by bus, however, or via Ngong Ping cable car. The ride takes you over forests and mountains.

2

Dragons Back hike

Escape from the busy cityscape of Hong Kong to hike the Dragon's Back. It happens to be one of Hong Kong's famous hiking trails. The trek yields panoramic scenes over the sea. It's a welcome change from the humdrum of the chaotic city.
The hike is moderately comfortable. The hike starts at Section 8, which is the bus stop To Tei Wan. After you've arrived at Big Wave Bay, you can either catch a minibus or taxi to Shek O. These areas have excellent seasides for swimming and a range of restaurants specialising in excellent seafood. Bring lots of water with you on the hike, plus a swimming suit, towel and sunscreen. A swim and some ice cream is the perfect way to cool down and end any hike!

3

Tai O Fishing village

The Tai O Fishing Village is an experience unlike anything else in Hong Kong. The village has become a popular site over the years, but it is much less crowded than the busy streets and markets of Hong Kong.
The people who live there are known as the Tanka people and have founded their homes on Lantau Island. The houses are on stilts over the tidal waters. They live quieter lives, and as per tradition is woven around fishing and selling seafood. Tourism also earns them some revenue. Boat tours and rides are popular, as well as the local markets. If lucky, you may even sight the rare and elusive pink dolphin in the nearby waters!

4

Nan Lian Garden and Chi Lin Nunnery

The temple, originally built in the 1930s and later redesigned in the 1990s according to the style of the Tang Dynasty. The structures in the temple are all constructed from wood and has a majestic ambience. The exterior of the temple grounds is meticulously tended, with bonsai trees encircling the Lotus Pond Garden, and other ponds with water lilies. The Chi Lin Nunnery is close by and is a monastery for Buddhist nuns.

5

Lamma Island

Take a ferry to this beautiful island bedazzled with the most beautiful landscape and pristine beaches in Hong Kong. Ferries can take you to the Sok Kwun Wan and Yung Shue Wan! Both are quaint villages with little to no roads and only 8000 people! A hike between these two villages will be a lovely experience, with a few nice restaurants to have a lovely meal in between. In Mongkok, hotels such as the Hong Kong Dorsett Mongkok can be a popular option for visitors.
