Top activities to do with your family in Hong Kong –Explore lively Hong Kong!

Hong Kong is a great family destination, filled with lots of great attractions and activities for everyone to enjoy. Check out some tips below if in need for some inspiration.

1

Tian Tan Buddha Statue

Visit the Tian Tan Buddha Statue, also known as the Big Buddha! The monumental statue of the Buddha is 34 meters in height and sits over the Po Lin monastery on Lantau Island. It is one of the biggest seated Buddha statues in the world, taking over 12 years to complete. The surrounding environment is also beautiful, enveloped by verdant forests facing the sea. One can travel via bus; however, the most scenic route is on the Ngong Ping cable car. The ride lasts 25-minutes and extends over 5km, and finishes at Ngong Ping Village. A relaxing walk through the village will lead you to the Big Buddha and the monastery.

2

HK Free Walk

HK Free walk is a fun initiative conducted by local volunteers to show people around the city centre. In the evening at the harbour, a light show is performed. Another significant stop is the Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower.

Dragons Back hike

Hike to Dragons Back and flee the busy cityscape for a while. It is one of Hong Kong's renowned hiking trails and is filled with picturesque scenes overlooking the sea.
The hike is fairly comfortable and not too taxing on young kids. Start at Section 8, which is the bus stop To Tei Wan. The road takes you across a small distance. After this, it is mostly a downhill trek leading you onto Big Wave Bay. From there, head to Shek O via bus or taxi. Here you will find sea sides for swimming, and there is a range of restaurants specialising in excellent seafood and ice cream. Bring water, some snacks, a change of clothes, a swimming suit, a towel and sunscreen for a fun day out.

Tai O Fishing Village

A trip to the fishing village is a unique experience in Hong Kong. Over the years, the village has become a famous site. But much less crowded than the busy roads and markets of Hong Kong.
The people who live here are the Tanka people and live on Lantau Island. The houses made on stilts stay above the tidal waters. The people here are used to a more tranquil way of life than the mainland. Their lives are constructed around fishing and vending seafood. Villagers also earn money through tourism. Boat tours and rides are popular things to do here. Visit the local markets and sample the food on offer. If you are lucky, you may catch a rare sighting of the elusive and threatened pink dolphin in the nearby waters.

Explore Chi Lin Nunnery and Nan Lian Garden

The building construction is quite spectacular, the temple is all made from wood. The temple gardens are beautiful and meticulously executed in the layout of a Chinese Garden. Bonsai trees, a Lotus Pond Garden with many other Lilly ponds spread across the gardens. The Chi Lin Nunnery is located nearby and is a retreat for Buddhist nuns. Both sites are found in Diamond Hill, in the Kowloon District. Explore the many a restaurant in Wan Chai, and the likes of Cosmo Hotel Wan Chai Hong Kong are popular options to stay on as well.
