The charming Galle Fort

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is an endowment from the Dutch under whom Sri Lanka or Ceylon were a colony in the 17th century. Having carefully preserved this Fort, with its ramparts, the cobbled streets, ancient churches and a museum this is a famous location drawing locals and tourists to witness the ancient Dutch architecture and to spend a few hours at leisure at the cafes, souvenir shops, clothing boutiques, antique stalls and even spa or two doing brisk business.
