A List of Awesome Things to Do in Melbourne for Free – Plan a budget holiday

You do not have to always spend big bucks when you go on holiday to have a great and memorable time! If you are in Melbourne Australia, here are a list of free (and fun) things to do.

1

Visit the State Library of Victoria

If you are a lover of books, then you will love this one! The State Library of Victoria is unlike any other from the moment you step in. You cannot deny that it is one of the most beautiful buildings to exist. The outside is as equally beautiful as the inside, the domed La Trobe Reading Room is one-of-a-kind, with plenty of natural light shining through. This location is even more stunning come evening. If you're looking for some quiet time to read your favourite book, this is where you need to be. Even better, this library houses over two million books, thousands of newspapers, audio, video and digital material. The State Library of Victoria is also home to many famous artworks and exhibitions, with free guided tours at your disposal!

2

Listen to Live Music to soothe your ears!

There's nothing better than some lively music to elevate your Melbourne experience, and fortunately, this ranks as one of the best free things to enjoy when in the city. Afterwards, you can go and hang out at Broadbeach Tavern, which is just a quick walk away from Avani Broadbeach Residences and numerous other hotels in Gold Coast Australia. It is a great place to dine in.

3

Explore the Queen Victoria Market

Here is your chance to experience local life and culture in Melbourne, by navigating through the stalls of fresh produce, snacks, homewares and much, much, more! If you go on Wednesdays, there is an afterhours market, which runs between November and April, where the market place comes alive with music, delectable food stalls and more late-night shopping. This is an experience for all age groups, as there are also toys, kids' clothes and activities to suit all ages and interests.

4

Take a Trip to National Gallery of Victoria

This magnificent 1960s bluestone building was designed by Sir Roy Grounds. And along with the other building, called Ian Potter Centre, it makes up the National Gallery of Victoria, containing over 70,000 works of art. The national gallery is a must visit, not only do you get to witness art first hand, but the building in itself is a must see. Aside from its permanent collection, the National Gallery of Victoria holds exhibitions and special events.

5

Relax with Your Loved Ones at the Royal Botanic Gardens

If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, head over to the peacefully tranquil setting of the Royal Botanic Gardens, spread across 94 acres. With over 10,000 plants, there's ample space to relax and unwind. Along with this, there is also a 3.8 km walking and jogging track, which runs part the main entrance and the Shrine of Remembrance war memorial.
