It is Sri Lanka's only remaining virgin rainforest and is home to thriving endemic biodiversity. The Sinharaja rainforest is designated as a World Biosphere Reserve and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located within the Sabaragamuwa and Southern Province of Sri Lanka, the rainforest homes many species of animals as Sri Lankan leopard, purple-faced langur, red slender loris, and Sri Lankan elephant among others. Due to the dense vegetation, it is difficult to spot these animals. The forest is also a goldmine for endemic plants and herbs.
