5 Stunning Waterfalls in Mauritius – Mother Nature’s best

An island in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of East Africa, Mauritius is home to many wonders. Popular for its stunning beaches, lagoons, and reefs, there's little that people know of its equally beautiful waterfalls. Read on to witness these yourself!

The Tamarind Falls

Also known as 7 cascades and Tamaran Falls, you'll find this magnificent waterfall in the southwest of Mauritius. Although astonishing, this waterfall lies in a hard to reach area. Located near the small village of Henrietta, hiking the Tamarind Falls is one you should not miss out on, especially if you enjoy hiking! With 11 waterfalls, many jumps, several deep ponds and awe-inspiring vegetation, Tamarind Falls is known to be one of the nicer canyons of the island that will suit the beginner to the hardcore adventurer! There are two hiking options available, and both allow you to enjoy nature to the maximum!

Alexandra Falls

Standing 700 metres above sea level, Alexandra falls is located in Black River Gorges National Park. This waterfall is surrounded with lush green flora and fauna. Less than an hour away from Anantara Iko Mauritius Resort & Villas, this waterfall is one of the many attractions in Mauritius that has to make it to your itinerary! Alexandra Falls isn't famous only for its breathtaking beauty but offers a rare and unique chance for its visitors to experience nature. The way to access the waterfall is by going to Plaine Champagne and head in the direction of Grand Bassin. Along the way there, you'll see a sign that says Alexandra Falls Viewpoint, and as you go along, you'll find ample parking and refreshments on sale!

Exil Waterfalls

Exil Waterfalls is situated on the outskirts of Combo forest, on the south of the island. Travellers that enjoy nature and vegetation will feel as if they were in heaven when they visit this natural wonder. Boasting an array of indigenous flora and fauna, there's technically two waterfalls in this Canyon: Leon Waterfall and Cascade Cecile. Leon waterfall has a 20-metre drop into a 25-metre wide pool while Cascade Cecile has a 45-metre drop with plenty of rocks in between. To those that want a little more adventure, they have the option of swimming or jumping across the rock pools! The tropical forest surroundings truly transport you to another world.

Black River Gorges Waterfalls

This spot is worth visiting for all trekkers, bird watchers, and nature lovers! The viewpoints and waterfalls this park boast shouldn't be missed, and it is also the largest park in Mauritius. Located in the central highlands, this park is famous for its waterfalls, vistas and hiking! During your trip here, you will also learn about the vegetation, the endemic and exotic birds and the natives, giving your holiday to the Mauritius an entirely new dimension.

Rochester Falls

Known as the widest waterfalls in Mauritius, this iconic waterfall is located in the south. Set in a wild lush green area that is mostly isolated, the cascading waters tumble from a height of 10 metres through rocky beds of the River Savanne. This spot is ideal for a refreshing dip or a much needed picnic break. Take in the breathtaking scenery and clear pools of water as much as your heart desires!
