Described as one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world by many travellers, the journey to the little town of Ella is incredible. Once there, visit the Nine Arches Bridge! It is located in between Ella and Demodara Station. It was built during the time of the British colonial period, mainly to transport tea to Colombo. Apparently, during its construction at the height of World War I, the engineers ran out of steel. Sri Lankan workers, however, carried on regardless and used stone and bricks to complete the project. The result is the eye-catching nine arched bridge. Try to capture the daily train crossing from the bridge. While in Ella, do climb the Ella rock! It is the most popular trail for visitors and takes about three hours. At sunrise, the summit is magical!
