What is the best reason to travel to Sri Lanka?- Actually not one but many !

Sri Lanka is a tiny island of many treasures. From the people to the attractions, history and culture, discover the many facets that make Sri Lanka special!

1

Kandy Ella train ride

Described as one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world by many travellers, the journey to the little town of Ella is incredible. Once there, visit the Nine Arches Bridge! It is located in between Ella and Demodara Station. It was built during the time of the British colonial period, mainly to transport tea to Colombo. Apparently, during its construction at the height of World War I, the engineers ran out of steel. Sri Lankan workers, however, carried on regardless and used stone and bricks to complete the project. The result is the eye-catching nine arched bridge. Try to capture the daily train crossing from the bridge. While in Ella, do climb the Ella rock! It is the most popular trail for visitors and takes about three hours. At sunrise, the summit is magical!

The people

Sri Lankan hospitality is something unique. The people love to shower guests with the best possible treatment. If you ever befriend a Sri Lankan, you will know what this is like. You will be warmly invited into their homes, and families will treat you like their own. Feed you to your heart's content and take you around the locality and show you the real meaning of hospitality. Sri Lankans love to take care of visitors to their country and are super generous. Even on the road, if you get lost or need help, you can ask a local, and most will be glad to help you.

The history and spirituality

Sri Lanka has a history that spans thousands of years. The advent of Buddhism into the country in the 3rd century BCE resulted in the rapid growth of culture and civilization based upon Buddhist principles. Travel to ancient cities such as Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya, to witness the impressive artistic splendour and technological advancements of the ancient peoples of Sri Lanks. If you are soul searching, Sri Lanka is also the place for you. The island is dotted with meditation monasteries, retreats, and wellness centres to soothe the body and mind.

Climb Sigiriya

The famous Lion Rock is an ancient rock citadel that was once the capital of Sri Lanka during the reign of King Kashyapa. The rock citadel enveloped by dense forests was the perfect hideaway for the parricide king who overtook the throne from his brother. The palace grounds are spectacular, as is the summit. Atop, encounter the palace ruins, the king's throne and water pools.
