5 Things to Pack for your Mekong River Cruise Adventure- Some essential packing tips!

If cruising through South East Asia is something new, make sure not to forego these things to make your journey all the more comfortable!

1

Essentials

Make copies of all important travel documents such as passports, visas if applicable, flight tickets, travel/medical insurance, vaccination requirements/ exemptions along with the originals in an easy to access a folder. Back up all hard copies into your phone for quick access. Carry local currency with you apart from the US dollars which are acceptable everywhere. In Vietnam, it is the Vietnamese Dong, and in Cambodia, it is the Riel. They will be useful when you want to buy trinkets, snacks and souvenirs from small vendors at your stops.

2

Clothing items

Given the hot weather, stick to light fabrics such as cotton and linen. They are great in so many ways as its lightweight, easy to wash and dry quickly. Pack sufficient cotton t-shirts, shirts, dresses, skirts, shorts and trousers to keep you cool and comfortable. Also, try to make sure they are in light colours such as white and pastel, as darker colours tends to absorb more heat. When visiting temples, both genders need to dress modestly and cover both knees and shoulders. A shawl will also come in handy to protect your hair and head from the sun. Showers can occur at certain times of the year, so a lightweight raincoat or umbrella will also come in handy. And of course, don't forget to pack a couple of pairs of swimwear to make use of the pool available to you on the cruise, such as the Mekong Kingdoms cruises.

3

Accessories

Pack your favourite walking shoes or sandals to help you explore the locations in comfort, and a light pair of sandals or flip flops when visiting temples. So, it will be easier to slip out of them when visiting multiple temple sites. A nice wide brim hat and sunglasses are also a must as the sun will be hot on most days.

4

Miscellaneous items

Other important items include plenty of sunscreen and moisturizers. The humid conditions attract a lot of bugs and mosquitoes. So, insect repellent will be useful. Long-sleeved blouses and shirts can also help to protect you from mosquitoes. A small travel backpack when you visit ports of call, to carry essentials such as water and some snacks. Any prescription medication you are taking regularly, keep a decent supply of other medications such as pain killers, plasters, antiseptic and cold medicine as a first aid backup. Although, most cruise operators will also supply these as per request.

5

Electronics

Pack a universal power adapter to charge your phones and devices as the power sockets in Cambodia and Vietnam will differ from what you are used to. A pair of extra batteries for your phone. Your favourite camera, and an extra memory card so you wouldn't miss out on all those lovely photo moments on your Luang Prabang cruise.
