4 Types of Coffee Roasts to Keep you Going – It’s not just about the taste

The type and level of roast on coffee beans have a significant impact on the final taste. If you are curious about these different types and how each one can change your morning cup of coffee, here are a few interesting facts. There are four levels of coffee bean roasts from light to dark.

1

White Roast coffee

This refers to the lightest type of roast coffee. This is roasted for the shortest amount of time and visible the lightest as well. As a result, it has the highest concentration of caffeine and therefore is the strongest. If you want a sharp cup of coffee that is sure to wake you up for the day, this is the one to go for. White roast coffee and white coffee are two different things. White coffee refers to different beverages that are made by mixing milk with coffee.

2

Light Roast

If you are interested in a more light and subdued coffee that still has a punch of caffeine, a light roast is for you. Some of the best coffee in Dubai are made from light roast coffee beans. This is also called cinnamon roast because of its colour that is close to the colour of cinnamon sticks. This is mostly used in cold brew drinks at the Nomad Day Bar. The flavour notes in the coffee maker for an excellent cold drink that has just enough coffee flavour to give that extra boost. This type of roast is also ideal for people who love coffee but have a sensitive stomach. It is gentler and milder on your stomach lining so the irritation will be quite less. The brewing process of light roast coffee is longer since it takes more time to extract it properly.

3

Medium Roast

This is perhaps the most balanced coffee in terms of caffeine, acidity, aroma, and overall flavour. It has a nice consistency in terms of flavour and is ideal for everyday coffee drinkers. A unique thing about medium roast coffee is that it helps to bring out the chocolate notes in the coffee giving it an added flavour profile. You can make medium roast coffee using a variety of methods such as in mocha pots, espresso machines or even using the normal pour-over method. The process of extracting coffee from a medium roast is faster than a light or a white roast. Therefore, don't grind the coffee beans to small dust, since this can result in over-extraction or even burning. This tends to be the most popular type of coffee in general.

4

Dark Roast

Are you a fan of espresso? Is that your go-to drink? If yes, this is the type of coffee you like. Dark roast coffee beans are the colour of dark chocolate or sometimes even darker. It's best to use a coarse grind for this since the coffee flavour is extracted very quickly from these beans. This can be quite bitter if you are not used to it, so it's best to experiment with it with different combinations.
