Kalu Ganga

The best way to enjoy the beautiful Kalu Ganga is to take it in during a slow boat ride down the meandering river. During the ride, you and your partner can take in the rich biodiversity the banks of the river claim to your heart's content.

Katukurunda Beach

The pristine stretch of soft golden sands kissed by the warm azure blue waters of the Indian ocean of Katukurunda Beach is an ideal spot to relax and unwind under the shade of swaying tropical palms. It's also a great secluded stretch to enjoy a romantic walk come sunset. It's especially great as it doesn't usually attract a large crowd, and is far quainter and more enjoyable unlike the usually bustling beaches of SL. If one is feeling peckish, one can opt to treat yourself to some local street food delights sold by the friendly vendors manning beach-side stalls.

4

Fa Hien Cave

The Fa Hien Cave is located further inland of Kalutara and is famed for being the home of the famous travelling Chinese monk, Fa Hein, and prior to that has yielded evidence of prehistoric cavemen. The cave is located on an elevated area of land, which will require a short trek, which will also allow you to take in the lush views of the inland of Kalutara. Opting to visit this cave is a great way to take in a quainter side of Kalutara as opposed to just sea-side views and scenes.

5

Kalutara Temple

Rising among bustling streets, the Kalutara Bodhiya and temple is a majestic sight indeed. Consider visiting the temple to immerse yourself in the quiet serenity of this beautiful Buddhist temple, as soft Buddhist chants bathe the air. Do keep in mind, that to enter this place of worship, one is required to dress modestly covering one's shoulders and knees. Prior to entering the temple, footwear should be removed. Offering fragrant lotus flowers and lighting sticks of incense sticks once inside the temple is a great way to add to your visit and immerse yourself in a spiritual experience. Consider visiting with a local guide if you are keen on discovering the history of the temple.
