Awesome Things to do in Sri Lanka – The pearl of the Indian Ocean is your oyster

Sri Lanka has always captivated the imaginations of travellers and adventurers across the globe for generations. This should come as no surprise given the wide range of activities that one can engage in during their time on this stunning island.

1

Gal Oya National Park

One of the most exciting and serene parks to visit may be the Gal Oya National Park. Found on the eastern shore of the island, the park is close to the previously mentioned Yala National Park. The Park was set up in the 1950s but was then shut down during the Sri Lankan Civil War. Once the conflict had ended, the park was reopened for visitors.
A key aspect of the park is, of course, the Senanayake Samudraya Lake and the spectrum of birds that visit the lake each year based on their migratory patterns.
People who visit can enjoy camping as well as boat safaris that will take them across the lake to enjoy the surrounding landscapes.

Hikkaduwa

Waves await on the sunny shores just off the coast of Sri Lanka, with plenty of time for scuba diving, surfing and snorkelling. Most of the time spent here is sure to be a relaxing time that can be experienced on a vacation. With plenty of cafes and restaurants dishing out splendid meals, there is nothing better than reclining and relaxing on the beach of Hikkaduwa!
If you are on the lookout for some 4 star hotels in Sri Lanka then a location such as The Calm Resort & Spa on the eastern shores of the island is also worth checking out.

The Temple of the Tooth

The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic or the Sri Dalada Maligawa as it is referred to is a major destination for tourists as well as religious enthusiasts from around the globe.
Located in the heart of the Kandy city, surrounded by lush green forests and flanked by a manmade lake this site of worship has a storied history that makes it unique from many other such religious destinations that may be visited in Sri Lanka.
The temple itself is housed within what was the main royal palace complex of the Kingdom of Kandy that governed the nation before finally falling under colonial rule. This massive structure holds a variety of segments dedicated to specific aspects of Buddhism and has the privilege of being the home to a relic that is believed to be the Lord Buddha's tooth.

Climbing Little Adams Peak

Located close to the popular town of Ella in the highlands of Sri Lanka, this hike is perfect for beginners! it takes about an hour to the summit if you do not take any breaks to rest. The Ella town recently grew to experience large popularity as one of the hottest places to be in the hill country. Therefore, if you hope to complete your hike without running into big crowds it is recommended to leave in time to watch the sunrise.

Behold the Sigiriya Rock

Having been a fortress that was built by an ancient king, the entirety of the land surrounding the rocks were in fact a lush garden that held vast pools and temples. Perched atop the giant rock was also the massive fortress of this now long-gone king. A brilliant stop for those who enjoy their history.
