Witness the Famous Big Buddha of Koh Samui

A golden monolith carved in the image of the Buddha is one of the best known and most famous landmarks on the island. Standing roughly 12 metres tall, this statue is located on a small island off the coast of Koh Samui and stands out to all visitors flying into the island. The temple is located in is called the Wat Phra Yai and the statue itself depicts a time during which the Buddha was defying the temptations created by the devil.
It is an excellent way to find closeness to the culture of Thailand. As you enter you will hear the gentle thrum of chanting by monks, with wafts of incense hanging in the air. Devotees will come during the morning hours to pay their respects, meditate or pray for their beloved.
As it is a religious destination above all else, it is courteous to don the proper attire. Please refrain from wearing low cut clothes or colourful clothes with vivid imagery. Choose instead to cover up and wear plain clothes of a light colour.

The Hin Ta and Hin Yai Rock

This peculiar arrangement of rocks has become somewhat of attraction over time on Koh Samui Island. There may either be some kind of allure or humour to seeing genital shaped rocks on the beach, but these formations are a must-visit site on the island.
