Blackthorn bush is regarded as a sacred plant. It is stated that you should not place a snippet of the blackthorn bush near a fairy mound for fear of death.
Rowan, on the other hand, was used as protection. It was used to ward off illness and dark magic.
Four leaf clovers are said to turn away they Fae and in some cases allow humans to have ‘the sight’ the ability to see the unseen, ie. the Fae.
Marsh Marigolds were used to protect horses from being ridden in the night by the common sidhe.
Elderberries are said to be the mirth of the Fae, their favorite snack.
Daisy’s were woven into chains and were given to children to stop them from from being swapped with Changelings
St. John’s Wort is a Summer Solstice plant and was said to protect from the Fae. If they were trying to capture you, you could use St. John’s Wort to thwart the attack.
There are a few beliefs attached to foxglove. Some believe foxglove is a misinterpretation of ‘Folk Glove,’ which would mean gloves for the Fae Folk. Others believe foxglove was a gift from the Fae to foxes to ring when there was a fox hunt to warn others. Another belief is that the Fae gave it to the foxes to wear to silence them as they enter hen houses.
The Fairy Ring Mushrooms are sacred areas that should not be breached by humans as it may take them to the land of the Fae.
The Oak tree is a common tree that is tied Dryads. It is said that by killing the tree you will kill the Dryad that is attached. Dryads are gentle Fae, but will do anything to keep their tree alive.
