Top family activities in Mauritius - Some of the best sites on the island!

Mauritius has more than sandy beaches on offer, although that is something hard to complain about! Here are some top sites to visit with the family to add some diversity to your holiday.

1

Chamarel

Chamarel is a small village in the south of the island and is a top attraction in Mauritius. The Chamarel Falls is a series of waterfalls situated nearby, and the tallest of them drops to around 100 meters. There are many viewpoints, and some can be reached via a staircase. The village of Chamarel is additionally well-known for the seven coloured earth. This phenomenon is due to the cooling of volcanic rocks at varying temperatures. It has resulted in hills of seven colours. Furthermore, there is an adventure park located close by, which is perfect for the whole family.

2

Rochester Falls

Found in the south of Mauritius, Rochester Falls is quite an amazing area to visit. The waterfall is popular for its unique lava hills polished by countless years of decay. When touring the south, a visit to Rochester Falls is a must! Revel in the heart of nature and have a dip in the fresh and pristine waters below the falls. However, young children and inexperienced swimmers should refrain from swimming in the pools.

3

Black River National Park

The National Park has over 6574 hectares of green forest cover and attracts many adventurers. For a fun family time in nature, go on some of the hiking trails. They will lead you to the most stunning sites on the island. Many mountain peaks and waterfalls are within the park. The National Park is also home to a wide variety of endemic birds, such as the Pink Pigeon of Mauritius, the Green Echo Parakeet, and the Mauritius Kestrel.

Le Morne

Le Morne is among the most enchanting villages in Mauritius. Within the village, you can find"Morne Brabant" a single summit mountain, that was used as a hiding spot for runaway slaves. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2008. An amazing place for some trekking and the views facing the Indian Ocean is spellbinding! The site further has the best beach in the south, which is the Le Morne public beach. This beach is famous for its crystal-clear water, soft white sand, lines of Casuarina trees and the striking "Morne Brabant" in the backdrop.

5

Blue Bay Marine Park

The Marine Park is located on the South East Coast of Mauritius close to Mahebourg. Those who love water activities will find it is one of the best places for snorkelling, diving and glass-bottomed boat rides. The Park includes a lagoon, that extends from the reef for at least a kilometre. Feast your eyes on the bluest and crystal-clear waters and exquisite marine life here. Encounter fish such as butterflyfish, Damselfish, Trumpetfish, and so much more. While visiting Blue Bay Marine Park, hotels such as the likes of Anantara Iko Mauritius are options to consider.
