5 Places in Khon Kaen to Visit with Your Family - The best places to visit

Although Khon Kaen is among the major cities in Thailand, it is one of the more rural places located in the Isan Region. A definite kid-friendly location, check out the best things to do with the family while there.

Tour the temples of the region

Khon Kaen has many beautiful temples you can visit. As a country steeped in spiritualism, it is a good way to get children acquainted with the different cultures and beliefs of the people of Thailand. With 95% of the population being Buddhist, you will encounter many gorgeous temples throughout the country, and this region is no exception. Visit Wat Nong Wang, Wat Pa Saeng Arun, and Wat Thung Setthi which are some of the popular temples to visit in the region.

Day and Night markets

You can find the local market located at the centre of the city. It is packed with many boutiques, trade stalls, fresh fruit, veg and food stalls. The market remains open both day and night. It is a great place to take young children and get them to experience new sights, sounds and tastes. However, be wary that it can be crowded, especially during the weekends, so be vigilant about your kid's whereabouts while discovering the place.

Park Time

You can find two lovely parks in Khon Kaen, Bueng Kaen Nakhon Park and Dino Water Park. The former is found nearby lake Bueng Kaen Nakhon. The parkland area has lots of trees to provide shade and a cycling track. It is a wonderful place to cool off in the evenings, after days of sightseeing and even cycle around the pretty lake. Then there is Dino Park, which is a theme park with plenty of fun rides and attractions that kids will love, and so will you!

Wat Pa Thamma Utthayan

It is a great place to spend a whole afternoon! The premises has a temple, an amusement park, monuments, sculptures, animals, and plenty of plants and cultivations.
The kids can find statues of cartoon characters and animals within the area. You can expect to see crocodiles, rabbits, ostriches, and others. Get in touch with nature, spirituality and animals in this amazing place.
Camping and volunteering are allowed to people of all religions, and free meals are provided to guests. However, arrangements will have to be made beforehand.

Pueai Noi

Visit the historical site of Prasat Pueai Noi and get to know the history and culture of the region. It also happens to be one of the most significant shrines in upper Northeastern Thailand. The site of the sanctuary has three central buildings, and they were built in the 16th-17th century. The elaborate designs of the buildings are still wonderfully preserved.
It is believed this was a location where those of the Hindu faith performed their rituals during that time. The views are breathtaking, and so is the architecture and the old ruins surrounding the place.
