As one of Indonesia's most popular beach hubs, Kuta offers visitors a wealth of new experiences and activities. From splashing around in the water to touring local temples, here are some of the best ways to spend your time in this beach paradise.
As the main reason most tourists holiday in Bali's beach capital in the first place, no trip to Kuta would be complete without spending time at its best beaches. Head down to Kuta Beach, which occupies the south-western shores of the island, to not only enjoy the sun, surf and sand but also to engage in a game of beach soccer and swim to one's heart's content. Ideally located near the Kuta Art Market and the Discovery Shopping Mall, the beach hub is also within close range of seafood restaurants and pubs.
Open to visitors from 9 am to 10 pm, Dream Museum Zone or DMZ, as it's affectionately known, is one-of-a-kind art gallery in Kuta where more than 120 larger than life wall paintings and photos are on display. The three-dimensional portraits and highlights contained within the museum make for stunning social media posts as one can appear alongside fantastical backdrops that include a whale chase and treacherous bridges.
Those based at the HARRIS Hotel & Residence Riverview Kuta Bali or any one of the midscale Kuta hotel rooms should also explore the water-based games and activity hubs contained within Waterbom Bali. As one of the most popular water parks on the island, this sprawling playground for the young and the old is found on Jalan Kartika Plaza road and is one of the biggest splash centres in all of Bali. From waterslides to river rides and everything in between, this mammoth water park laden with gardens and pools truly has it all.
Water sports lovers based in Bali can sign up for a host of water-bound activities including kite surfing. The wind and water conditions on Kuta Beach are perfect for the sport while it is also a haven for surfers. Kuta Beach, unlike most other beach hotspots on the island, is suitable for both seasoned and beginner surfers as there are waves to cater to every type of surfer. Kuta is also an excellent location to learn how to surf as countless surfing schools including the Rip Curl School of Surf and Odysseys Surf School are found here.
Considered a rite of passage for first-time visitors, catching a nightly performance at the Kuta Theatre is one of the best ways to spend the after-dark hours. Highlighting Balinese dance traditions, the Lights of Faith show is a winning combination that includes funny, thrilling, and poignant moments in a story that encapsulates the value of friendship.
A photographer's dream, this upside-down house in Bali contains seven rooms where the furniture literally hangs down from the roof while visitors walk on the ceiling.
From Vihara Dharmayana to countless others, some of Bali's finest Buddhist and Hindu temples are found in Kuta.
