Over the course of 32 years, this zoo has established itself as a valued asset in eastern Thailand. The Khao Kheow-Khao Chom Puo Wildlife Sanctuary covers more than 2,000 acres, including the zoo. In addition to wildlife habitat (spanning four hundred acres), there are recreational and social areas (spanning two hundred acres), and a location for research (spanning over one thousand acres) that is utilised for the rearing of numerous endangered animals. It is, in fact, the first-ever zoo here in Thailand to become a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA).
