10 Favourite Paintings of Winslow Homer

Winslow Homer was an American Painter. He specialized in watercolors. Although later on, he took up oil painting. His proximity to water marks many of his paintings.

Born the second son of the three children of his parents in Boston, Winslow Homer picked up his longing for painting as a talent from his amateur painter mother. His artistic education was limited only to the extent of his brief apprenticeship with a lithographer. His mastery in sketching and expertise in watercolors were the outcome of his keen observation of the nature and the rest could be attributed to his inborn spontainity.

He travelled widely but always stayed close to the nature with a painter's eye and a restless brush. Womenfolk promenading along the seashore and those frolicking in a meadow were always some of his dearest subjects and were always close to heart. East Hampton Beach is one such exciting moment of his life and his brush with water colour translated it's naturalistic details in to an invigorating piece of painting.
