Listly by Chelsea Potvin
After being exposed to the numerous uses for technology in the classroom, I have thoughfully curated a list of the 10 I believe are most serviceable.
ClassDojo was extremely useful to learn about in class as I could confidently implement the use of this platform along side my CT at my internship. ClassDojo allows teachers to provide thier students with points for demonstrating positive behaviour, remaining on task, or for any other reason in which the teacher believes their student should be recognised. The ClassDojo platform is also a wonderful tool to connect with parents through as they can create an account to view their Childs behaviour.
QuiverVision marries traditional colouring with augmented reality. Although this technology is primarily geared toward the lower elementary grades, I would feel comforatble implementing the use of this, as an "I have completed all my work" activity, up until Grade 5. This app encourages students to colour in a detailed picture; when they are done the students are able to hold their devices camara over their picture and watch as their colouring page comes alive through the QuiverVision app.
NearPod is an exciting way for teachers to bring PowerPoint lessons to life! Through this unique technology, students will be able to view the slides in which the teacher wants them to. As the teacher carries through and instructs the lesson, he/she may implement questions, games, or even quizzes to enhance and ensure student engagement thoughout. I personally enjoyed learning from this platform in my EDU 228 class and EDU 334 class this semester.
FlipGrid is a tool that can spark meaningful conversation within your class and even aid your reluctant writers. Through FlipGrid, students are able to create discussion videos incorrporating the use of filters and effects, which ultimatly make learning fun. FlipGrid also opens up the stage for purposeful conversation between the students in your classroom. Additionally, the FlipGrid tool is an excellent source to aid your students who often struggle to write their thoughts out on paper.
Google Classroom is an excellent tool to implement in the case of distanced learning or within your older grades. This platform enables teachers to create a "hub" for their students to access weekly assignments, news, or any other links you that they may need. Students don't have to waste time waiting for the next day or emailing their teachers about what assignments are due and when the next test is.
This intruging and modern learning tool, enables teachers to bring every subject to life. By providing students with a Merge Cube and device (such as an iPad), students are able to view and examine 3 dimentional diagrams of space, the human body, and much more. Although this technology does not replace the entirty of a lesson, it most certainly enhaces students learning by adding another dimention to the lesson being taught.
GooseChase incorrporates scavengerhunts within your classroom, school community, or on a feild trip. Through this app students have access to a series of quests in which they must complete in order to earn points. These quests can include typing in an answer, taking a picture, or making a video. The scavengaer hunts are designed to encourage student engagment within a bigger concept or idea. The GooseChase scavenger hunts are an excellent resourse to use when wanting your students to work collabourtivly.
Photo Math enables students to check their work by taking a picture of the math problem in which they are solving. The Photo Math program provide seach of the steps that should have been taken to correctly answer the problem. Whilst this is an incredibly usful tool, I would be more apt to implement within a classroom of older students.
3D Bear enables students to create their own diagrams through augmented reality. This is a brilliant tool to implement within the classroom of your intermediate students as it challenges the class to bring their own learning to life through an immersive technology. It also enables the students to upload their creation onto a platform similar to the TikTok algorithum. 3D Bear was designed with education in mind making it a safe technological option to implement within your classroom.
Similar to Google Classroom, teachers can develop a page in which their students and parents are able to quickly access links and information in one convenient, virtual location. Teachers have the ability to edit and redisign their classroom anytime to keep their students up to date on any new assignments or upcoming events that are going to take place. This semester was my first experience with Bitmoji Classrooms and I can truthfully state that I plan on implementing this tool within my future classroom.
