Fun Things to Do in Melbourne – A top travel destination

Melbourne is fun for people of any age. From delightful boutiques and vintage shopping, secret bars, fantastic entertainment venues, sprawling markets, and more, this city has a lot to offers. Here is a list of fun things to do while on your visit.

1

Catch a sunrise from a hot air balloon

Hot air ballooning isn't just for the country, they are ideal to fly over the beautiful city of Melbourne too. Unsurprisingly there are not a lot of people around at sunrise, and having the opportunity to drift over the city during dawn feels pretty surreal. Do keep in mind that the day's flights are determined by each day's conditions which means you might or might not see iconic Melbourne spots from above.

2

Visit the Royal Botanic Garden

The expansive Royal Botanic Gardens is home to over 8,500 plant species, lush lawns, and beautiful lakes. Melbourne is lucky to have the gardens located smack bang in the middle of the city. Being so easily accessible, the gardens are an ideal location to enjoy a picnic. Do consider hopping on a boat to enjoy a spot of punting on a lake. A highly recommended spot to enjoy a picnic is around Ornamental Lake. If you are unable to pack a picnic, do consider making your way to Jardin Tan for some delicious Vietnamese cuisine.

3

Take in Queen Victoria Market

Queen Victoria Market is a bustling open-air market packed with veteran stallholders who are passionate about fresh produce. The market is very popular with locals keen to stock up on their fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, and dairy goods. It has also evolved into becoming a must-visit spot among tourists. There are a huge number of stalls that sell clothing items, jewelry. and other miscellaneous items. Do be mindful of the opening hours of the market as it is usually closed on Mondays and Wednesdays. The shopping spot can also be reached easily from many a serviced apartment in Melbourne including the likes of Avani Melbourne Central Residences.

4

Visit the Beneath Driver Lane Bar for a drink

Beneath Driver Lane is an underground bar in the Melbourne CBD area and is certainly among the city's coolest hidden drinking spots. It's especially great to visit if you like good whisky, fun cocktails, blues music, great services, and a delicious offering of Reuben sandwiches. The bar occupies an old bank vault in the CBD and boasts of a speakeasy feel that's rare in such a busy city.

5

Visit the Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Center

The Bunjilaka Aboriginal Culture Center is located in a venue within the Melbourne Museum and has been developed to empower the Aboriginal people to interpret their cultural heritage for both non-indigenous and indigenous people. Here visitors will get the opportunity to celebrate the culture of Indigenous Australia with interactive exhibitions consisting of artwork, storytelling rituals, and traditional performances. Don't miss out on the Deep Listening space, where you will be able to listen to Victorian Aboriginal natives narrating the stories from the time of creation to the present day.
