Ivan G. Smith Elementary School, located on Lobao Drive, was built in 1973 as an “open classroom” concept building. W.T. Rich modernized the antiquated design of the original 1973 facility and built a two-and-a-half-story elementary school with unique features that encourage collaboration and student growth. Constructed in 1911, The Edgar Allan Poe School is an iconic civic landmark and has served the community for more than 100 years. Working with the NYSCA, Mitchell Giurgola designed a 5-story, 70,000 square-foot addition and renovation of a portion of PS 46X in the Bedford Park neighborhood of the Bronx.
