Truly Phuket dishes – Don’t out on the real treats of Phuket

While it may seem unfathomable to some, the best way to experience a country or new destination is by getting to the end of a bowl of food. It is in a meal that the true energy of a destination can be felt and the food of Phuket is no different!

1

Mee Hokkien

Phuket has long been influenced by the decades of exposure to external cultures that have passed through its borders. This however has been brilliant news for the food scene that has thrived throughout the years.
The Mee Hokkien is one of the most famous dishes in Phuket and can be found all across the island. This dish consists of flash friend wheat and egg noodles that are served with either seafood, pork, vegetables and gravy-like brother.
For those who may be wary of a heavy serving of spice, rest assured that there is nothing to worry about. This dish will remain true to its roots and be a mild and savoury delight. Keep in mind that there are a variety of restaurants in Mai Khao Phuket that can serve this dish but it is worth visiting the Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas to experience its most exquisite rendition.

Enjoy some Loba

What is Loba you may ask? This is one of Phuket's most beloved dishes and is also likely to be something that foreign visitors may not be in a hurry to experience. Loba is essentially pork offal. This collection of head, heart, lungs, intestine and tongue is braised in five-spice powder.
It is fine if this is not your cup of tea but if you are feeling adventurous and want to experience a truly unique local flavour, this is the dish to try out.

3

Do try some Oh Tao

This dish is essentially cubes of taro root, deep-fried pork rinds, and tiny oysters fried together in a spicy batter. So, for those who cannot seem to make up their minds, this is the ideal way to consume all your favourite treats in one go. It should also be said that this dish is best accompanied by a cold beer!

4

Oh eaw

While the cuisine found in Phuket is quite heavily on the savoury side, there is much to be said about the wonderful dish that is Oh eaw. With the sweltering heat that can easily overtake those who are new to the climate, the familiar sight and flavour of a shaved ice may be a welcome reprieve.
This dish is generally made of shaved ice, gelatinous cubes made from banana starch and kidney beans. What makes this quite special however is that it is only found within Phuket so if you see it, be sure to jump at the opportunity to taste it!

5

Roti

There is no better comfort food than some Roti. These Thai-Muslim pancakes can be found in various regions around Thailand and are typically served with an egg and some curry. If you are in the need of a quick yet hearty meal this dish is the perfect combination of spice, carbs and protein. Many places in Phuket can give you what you need but many people consider Abdul's Roti Shop to be one of the best places to experience this meal.
