It is Oman's most prominent fort and was built in the 17th century. Although not included in the UNESCO Heritage List, it is a remarkable site to visit. It is an excellent illustration of a protective complex masterminded to allow tribes to thrive and carry out trade throughout the medieval period. Built in the 13th century, it is a major draw in the Bahla oasis town. It is additionally one of the largest forts in Oman. The fort hosts paranormal activities at night time, and Bahla is considered the birthplace of Black Magic.
It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was once a primary trading point for frankincense over 2000 years ago and is 25 miles away from Salaha. Found on a hilltop facing the Khor Rori, a freshwater stream that flows over the site. You can find a museum there; the archaeological site remains an active digging site.
It is the biggest mosque found in the city of Salalah and is in the city centre itself. The mosque structure is massive, and the decorative element is a unique blend of Arabic and modern art types. The interior invokes a sense of humility and virtue among the worshippers during prayer time. Luckily non-Muslims are allowed to visit the mosque and take in the beauty of this place of worship.
Settled in the beautiful town of Taqah, the castle there is a top historical site in Oman. Built in the 19th century, this relatively new castle has many archaeological and architectural wonders to discover. Its backdrop alone is worth a visit, as the castle stands brilliantly, encircled by pristine beaches and rocky scenery.
It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and an outdoor archaeological museum. It is near the Arabian Coast, close to the Haffa souq. Rented vehicles are allowed to tour the premises. Guests can investigate the remains of old mosques. Several museums can be found on the site as well.
This Museum is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a great way to experience the essence of Omani culture and traditions. It is within a section of Al Baleed Archeological Park. The displays are extraordinary and will take you to a time when Oman was at the centre of the ancient frankincense trail. While there, try an Oman restaurant that can be found nearby.
Found in Nizwa, it is one of the most important village ruins in the Sultanate. It is home to the traditional Falaj watering system and is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Make sure to include it on the itinerary as it is well worth the visit. The value of this magical site doesn't stop here. You can find many striking surroundings of other old ruins and a massive banana plantation surrounded by towering mountains.
