Types of Tractor Tires – R1, R3, and R4 tires

Tires that are required for tractors are specially designed and developed for tough work. The design will also depend on the environment where it will be used. These items generally tend to be expensive, but you must pick the right tire for you.

1

Agricultural tires

Agricultural tires are used for tractors that are used in agricultural fields are specially designed for their ability to move through mud and hard soil efficiently. They are also commonly known as ag tires. They have diagonal treads that are placed at 45-degree angles. GRI FIT Australia makes sure that the agricultural tires that they produce have small sidewalls. This is beneficial to ensure that they don't sway. They are narrower than other types since they need to be able to cut through difficult surfaces. This is the type of tire that offers the highest level of traction. However, be aware that this is not suitable for any work that happens in a well-landscaped turf since it can leave imprints and damages the surface. These are commonly known as RI tires and can have different variations.

2

Turf tires

Among tractor tires, these are the ones that are exclusively made for surfaces that are covered in grass. The main objective when operating a tractor on lawns and grass is to ensure that it causes minimal damage to the landscape while allowing the grassroots to get sufficient air. To achieve this, turf tires tend to have shallow treads and has no tread bars. This allows tractors to glide over the turf without causing the soil to get too compact around the grassroots. Unlike agricultural tires, these do not leave an imprint on the turf as they are smoother and less aggressive. They usually perform best in dry conditions and struggle to perform optimally during rain and snow. These are known as R3 tires.

3

Construction tires

Construction tires are fitted to tractors that operate on hard surfaces. Some of the common materials that are suited for construction tire tractors include concrete and gravel as well as asphalt. They have deeper treads when compared to agricultural and turf tires since they need to perform well on hard surfaces. They can sometimes be similar to industrial tires which are discussed below.

4

Industrial Tires

Industrial tires are the most versatile type among the common tractor tires. As a result, they are also known as the "jack of all trades". They should have the ability to grip different surfaces and as such have tread bars that are of a very specific width and debt. They are usually wider than field tires, but more distinct than turf tires. This makes sure that they have a wider footprint with better distribution of overall pressure making sure it maintains high levels of friction. They are commonly used for forklifts in industrial sites. The structure of the tire is also more stable and solid. While they are quite versatile, these tires don't perform well in challenging terrains such as agricultural fields. These are commonly known as R4 tires.
