Top-Rated Tourist Attractions in Siem Reap – Temples Galore and So Much More

One cannot travel to Cambodia and not make a stop at Siem Reap. The city has become a magnet due to its proximity to the ancient Angor Wat temple complex and other cultural attractions. However, this city has more to offer and any temple-weary traveller can find plenty of other things to do.

1

Angor Wat Temple and complex

The sprawling temple complex, which roughly translates to "temple city' is considered the world's largest religious complex. Within this complex, Angor Wat is considered its crown jewel and is the most well-known of all the temples. It even appears on the Cambodian national flag.

To make sure you don't get lost in the labyrinth of the temple complex, it's best to book a tour. If you are staying at a hotel such as the Anantara Angkor Resort, you leave it to the concierge to take care of the temple tour leaving you to zip through the maze of temples without having to worry about missing out on any sites.

2

Angkor National Museum

This museum is a must-visit for history and temple fanatics. It is recommended that you visit the museum immediately before or after you visit the Angkor Wat complex itself. This museum presides over many artefacts from the Khmer era which dates back to a period between the 9th and 14th centuries.

3

Landmine Museum

Despite many decades have passed since the end of the wars in Cambodia, some of its fields are still spotted with some hidden reminders of its darker past. There are still around 6 million unaccounted landmines that are yet to be diffused and retrieved.
A visit to the Landmine Museum in Siem Reap is the best place to learn all about landmines and the role they played in the history of Cambodian warfare.
This may also be your only chance to get up close and personal with active and detonated landmines, in a safe and controlled environment.

4

A night out on the town

Once you've covered all the main temples, cultural pit stops and the archaeological marvels which brought you to Siem Reap, things to do, don't just stop there. Head over to Pub Street which is the perfect stretch to let your hair down and have a night out. The street, true to its name is lined with pubs and even nightclubs and is a hub for tourists from all over the world, to cross paths, meet up and have a good time.
If you're also looking for something to eat while you're out and about, this street is also lined with delicious affordable food. Whether you want to have a relaxing drink, grab a bite to eat or want to party your heart out, this is the stretch for you.

5

Late night shopping at Angkor Night Market

This night market opens at P.M. which gives you ample time to do a little shopping in-between your day of temple-hopping and your evening plans. This market was opened in 2007 to preserve the local Khmer handicrafts and heritage and to help support the local artisans. Expect to find heaps of local wears and handicrafts such as upcycled bags, little trinkets, jewellery, baskets, and textiles which have all been locally made, sold in little bamboo huts.
