New Zealand is amazing, from its majestic snow-capped mountains, lush fields, forests and rivers. It's a nature lovers paradise. Check whether these items are with you. It may make your trip even more magical and hassle-free.

Clothes to pack

If travelling during the winter, make sure to pack some of the following. The winter months are June, July and August, and the temperature can drop to minus degrees in certain parts of the country. However, the average will be around 12 -16 C in most cities such as Auckland.

A good waterproof or windproof jacket is great to have along with you. Multi-purpose clothes will always be more useful. A hoodie with a zip-up. Fleece during windy days, thermal leggings and underwear, socks, hand and foot comforters, a beanie, warm scarf, and gloves. A few warm t-shirts and jeans. Hiking bottoms, and a nice dress for an evening out!

For summer months, take some long-sleeved shirts and t-shirts, as the New Zealand sun can be damaging. T-shirts, dresses, jeans, shorts, plenty of socks, hiking bottoms, sarong, a swimming suit, neck warmers, and a pair of gloves.

Footwear

A sturdy pair of hiking boots for extensive hiking trips is essential to keep your ankles and soles well-supported in rugged terrains. You can also pack a pair of sneakers, sandals for summer months and sufficient warm socks.

Other essentials

A microfibre towel, sunglasses, a torchlight, caps, hats, a raincoat, A guidebook, especially if you are a Lord of the Rings fan and want to travel to the film locations.

An insulated reusable water bottle or a small thermal flask

A good backpack for day trips and hikes, it shouldn't be too big but just so to pack all your essentials. If it is waterproof, that would be ideal. Packing cubes are a great way to be organised as well.

Toiletries

A high protection sunscreen preferably SPF 50 or higher. New Zealand is just beneath the equator with the ozone breech right over the country, so your skin will burn faster.
A lip balm to protect against dry winds and chapped lips. An insect repellent will come in handy in some areas of the country. Motion sickness tablets. A first aid kit. And any of your most important personal care items such as shampoo, soaps, creams etc.

Electronics

Other than your phone, you may pack some of these items you feel are important to you. Your favourite camera, a USB connector cable, an international travel adapter, headphones, extra batteries for phones, camera etc. and chargers. Of course, it is better to leave all unnecessary electronics at home, and just stick to the basics. You will be surrounded by the magnificence of nature, don't let anything else distract you.

Don't pack these

New Zealand has a strict immigration policy on bringing edible food into the country. So don't pack fresh food such as fruit, cooked foods or snacks, liquids, seeds, and honey products. You may bring commercially packaged sealed products.
While in Auckland city, hotel properties such as the Avani Auckland Metropolis Residences can be good options that are worth considering for your stay!
