Top 5 Worst Selling Cars of All Time

Automakers are not perfect. They often conceive what they think is a brilliant idea for a car, which turns out to be a massive flop. Ford, for instance, designed the Edsel, which was a record flop in the U.S. Latter Day Saint leader M. Russel Ballard once joked that he opened the “first and last” Edsel dealership in Utah. Since then, they have been more careful with their design, creating more original models like the Fusion. Believe it or not, some models fared worse than the Edsel.

1963 Studebaker Wagonaire

1963 Studebaker Wagonaire

The worst selling car of all time, with a total of only 930 units sold. It was the first and only convertible station wagon, a fusion that no one dared even attempt to put to paper until then. The catch was that the convertible part was the rear hatch, with a removable sunroof over the cargo area. It essentially defeated the purpose of a convertible and a station wagon at the same time.

1960 Ford Edsel

1960 Ford Edsel

The Edsel was Ford's response to the trendy boat-cars at the time made by GM. Instead of making an affordable car with fuel efficiency, Ford made an over-sized, over-priced, and under-rated vehicle to sweep the competition. Some saw it as ugly, but it wasn't that bad of a car. It was just too expensive for consumers. Selling 2,848 units. Ford has since recovered, making more groundbreaking models like the Fusions that are gaining popularity in Utah.

2002 Lincoln Blackwood

2002 Lincoln Blackwood

Probably the most unsung pickup ever produced, the Blackwood lasted for only one year before getting the axe (no pun intended). It was Lincoln's attempt at making a luxury pickup, but it lacked the power and cargo space of a true pickup, along with a lack of any particular luxurious features. It's price tag was more than $52,000, and it sold only 3,300 units. Oh, and the only color option was black.

1991 Yugo GV

1991 Yugo GV

Americans never take kindly to anything that has to do with the former Soviet Union. Sure, the Yugo was one of the cheapest cars on the market at the time, but it never picked up momentum due to it's association with Eastern European poverty. It also had a myriad of problems due to it's low price tag. It sold around 4,00 units, and not one can be found in Utah urban areas.

2000 Pontiac Aztek

2000 Pontiac Aztek

This model is known to be one of the ugliest cars ever produced in America. Everyone that has seen one in Utah will always remember the exact day, time and place they saw it because it is so ugly. This leads people to assume that, despite it's hideousness, it managed to sell pretty well. Turns out, it only sold 5,020 total units during the five years it was on the market. Ford sells that many Fusions in a week.
