Although Glenorchy was a picturesque little small town a few years ago, this charming area north of Queenstown has become a popular tourist hotspot thanks in part to the large tourist influx absorbed by the nearby ski capital. Just an hour's drive away for those based in Queenstown, Glenorchy has recently expanded to house excellent cafes and restaurants and other facilities for the convenience of tourists. Home to the Dart River and Wakatipu River, the main attractions in the area include the Glenorchy Boardwalk and nearby wharf while those in search of walking trails will find breathtaking walks in the north of town. Varying in both length and difficulty, the Lake Sylvan Trek is a great hike ideal for visitors of all experience levels where the views available at the end of the walk are simply awe-inspiring.
