Having first opened its doors to the public as early as 1857, the Adelaide Botanic Garden is not only one of the most famous attractions in the city but also one of its oldest. Spread out across a whopping 51 ha, this expansive horticultural space has incorporated the royal garden designs of Kew Gardens in the UK and France's Versailles. In addition to hundreds of blooms of countless hues, the garden also contains several sculptures dating back to the beginning of the 19th century including the Palm House and the National Rose Triangle Garden. The roses at the Adelaide Botanic Garden are so well-maintained that 10 rose experts known as rosarians judge the quality of the blooms in both seasons of the year and award one to the winning rose variety.
