Submitting computer-generated image of how customer's design will be printed in their mug is easier and economical than printing an actual sample. But, if this is done the wrong way, it may lead to misunderstanding, unsatisfied customers or the worst is you will totally replace their order. This article will focus on sublimatable white mugs because it is the most common product that even a small printing business can make. This can be a big help specially to to those who are new in ceramic mug printing.
1. Shape of ceramic mug - most of the available sublimatable mugs here in Metro Manila, Philippines have curve in the lower part wherein after printing in that area, irregularities in print is visible.
2. Printing Machine - we cannot print close to handle without having issues on print.
Solution: Avoid placing designs in that areas.
Customer will expect colors based on the CGI that you sent. Our outputs depends on our software, printer, printer settings and ink. Before you start your mug printing services, print this pantones in different printer's settings and observe the output and make a notes about it.
Sublimation Print is Transparent
Our base is our media - the white ceramic mug; and sublimation ink is transparent and it will always adapt the color of it's base, it's reflections and shades. Aside from that, we don't have white ink in this process. In Adobe Photoshop, use "multiply" instead of "normal" layer opacity to make it transparent. Also, adjust opacity (%) if needed.
Make it more realistic
If we only have a mug mock-up generating app, it will be very easy. Always adjust your design based on the photo of mug that you are using for creating mock-up to make it more realistic. Amazed your customers by presenting realistic mock-ups. This will also tends customers not to ask for an actual sample print if they are satisfied with your mock-up.
In creating mock-ups, aside from impressing your customer, you must also protect yourself from customers' unrealistic expectation because of your unrealistic mock-up. If you send them mug mock-up in high resolution, when they zoom on it, they might demand crisp bold print even on small texts.
Due to competition, many printing owners allow their customers to edit a logo and create a layout for them even without initial payment. If you are one of them, tag your files before sending it to your customers. Some traders ask for a mock-up then look for cheaper printing service. If possible, ask for an initial payment for the layout.
