The most wonderful things to do in Da Nang – Attractions that speak of natural beauty and historic grandeur

The attractions of Dan Nang are a combination of colonial buildings, beaches, national parks and ancient pagodas. This vibrant Vietnamese city has no shortage of things to do and see.

1

Da Nang

This coastal city is a popular tourist destination, thanks to its colonial past. Once a French colonial port, Da Nang now is a city visited by hundreds of travellers. The city is wedged between Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. The country's fourth-largest city, Da Nang, is packed with historical highlights, beaches and shopping opportunities. Many travellers spend a few hours in the city on their way to My Son, Hoi An, My Khe Beach and Lang Co Beach, a few other attractions of Vietnam. Much of Da Nang travel is done by train, an option offered by The Vietage.

2

Marble Mountains

Situated south of Da Nang, Marble Mountains are a collection of marble hills and limestones. The peaks of the mountains are named after natural elements, and they are called Tho Son, Kim Son, Hoa Son, Thuy Son and Moc Son. The mountains are the site of many Buddhist shrines and temples. Climbing to the top of the mountains is a must-do.

3

My Khe Beach

This popular beach is found south of Da Nang, 6 kilometres away. The 20-mile beach is crowded with both locals and tourists. The beach was given its name, My Khe Beach, by the American soldiers who were here during the war. Considered to be one of the top beaches in the country, My Khe Beach is lined with eateries and resorts. The beach is known for water sports like jet-skiing, snorkelling, fishing and surfing; people come here just to relax as well. Off the beach are numerous attractions, including Hue Imperial City, Hoi An Ancient Town and Phing Nga Caves.

4

Son Tra Mountain

Standing at 693 meters above the sea, Son Tra Mountain is a national park. The winding, narrow roads leading to the mountain are popular with those who love cycling; hikers love these roads for the lovely scenery. You might also be able to see some wildlife during your hike; red face monkeys are a popular sight. At the top of the mountain is the figurine of the Goddess of Mercy, the tallest statue of the deity.

5

Dragon Bridge

The country's longest bridge, Dragon Bridge, has a length of 666 meters. Loved by photographers, Dragon Bridge has the shape of a dragon, which denotes a spiritual meaning for the locals; the Vietnamese people believe that the golden dragon is the carrier of good fortune, wealth, nobility and power. The bridge is built across the Han River, and on the weekends, it is illuminated by LED lights, which creates an enchanting spectacle.

6

Phap Lam Pagoda

With an amazing garden that features statues and trees, Phap Lam Pagoda is a tall two-level structure. Although it is located at the centre of all the bustle, the place has a serene atmosphere. The tall Buddha statue found in the courtyard is the main highlight.

7

Hai Van Pass

Located at an elevation of 500 meters, Hai Van Pass is the link between Da Nang City and Thua Thien Hue Province. Being the highest pass in Vietnam, it offers beautiful panoramic views of the region. This is also where you find the worn-down French fort, which was used as a bunker by the soldiers of the Vietnam's War. The blind corners and the curves of the pass are the cause of many accidents, so be careful if you are planning a drive through the pass.
