History

Middlemount State School first opened back in 1980, and a secondary school was added in 1983. Middlemount State High School was founded in 1988 when the secondary school was split from the elementary school. Anglo Coal owns the majority of the homes. Some of this town's infrastructure is operated and maintained by the corporation. Anglo Coal's German Creek coal mine (or Capcoal) is renowned for having the deepest coal mine in Queensland, as well as running Australia's first 'thin seam underground mine, which uses US technology.
