The Happy Elephant Home, Chiang Mai

The Happy Elephant Home located in Chiang Mai is indeed a happy and wholesome experience. The elephants live in a sprawling green field next to clusters of bamboo structures surrounded by beautiful mountains. Visitors have to wear traditional attire so the elephants don't get surprised by any foreign odors and smells. You will be able to feed the elephants bananas and sugar cane, bathe them in mud and finally cool off in the adjoining river together. Elephant Jungle Sanctuary – Phuket

Headquartered in Chiang Mai, the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary in Phuket has a total of five sustainable eco-tourism projects located throughout the country. Here the sanctuary works hard to educate visitors on respecting and advocating the humane treatment of elephants. The sanctuary houses over 30 elephants, all of whom sadly have been victims of mistreatment, all of whom now enjoy free lives in safety. Your visit here will include walks with your elephants. For a more immersive experience, you can consider spending the night at the Karen village.

Phang Nga Elephant Park – Phang Nga

If you are keen on supporting a small and budding ethical elephant practice, then consider visiting the newest elephant park located in Phang Na. The sanctuary offers both full and half-day tours. The full-day tour will include a Thai cooking class, so it's perfect for those travellers who are looking to engage in two for one of Thailand's best activities. Do note that riding elephants are strictly not allowed.

Elephant Hills, Khao Sok

Located on the very edge of the famous Khok Sao National Park, lies Elephant Hills. A rather luxurious elephant sanctuary, you will be able to spend multiple days with gentle elephants and guides. Guests can stay in amazing tents equipped with luxurious fittings while getting the chance to bathe, feed, and go on long walks with these gentle jumbos. The sanctuary is home to over 12 elephants who also once lived lives of abuse and ill-treatment.
