Now CMAM Fight over food and fight malnutrition in children bodies, the myths are those that contain the least original of truth but some myths help with us and gain true dietary knowledge that can actually help the child health.
Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) is a treatment protocol wherein the caregivers of the child are trained in proper nutritional habits, hygiene, and breastfeeding practices. The child is provided emergency nutritional supplements in the form of RUTF (Ready-to-use Therapeutic Food in India) for 8-12 weeks and medicines to treat any illnesses like diarrhea and edema which are found in many Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) children.
It is essential for the Community based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) of children who are suffering from uncomplicated Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and who retain an appetite. Therefore a combined nutrition plan needs to be developed which reduces the “dosage of RUTF” to incorporate home-based food in the daily diet.
India is home to over 60 lac Severe Acute Malnutrition management children – and with health systems being overwhelmed in urban and peri-urban areas, and more so during the pandemic era, it is only a matter of time before the health systems in rural India are overrun. Hence, the need for community-based treatment for malnutrition is more pressing than ever before.
The CMAM Association of India has come into existence to address the critical need of reducing Severe Acute Malnutrition amongst children in India.
