Packing for a beach holiday may seem simple, but sometimes the most essential things can slip your mind. Here is a list to make sure your holiday is fool-proof and without any packing mishaps.
In terms of clothes items like bathing suits will of course be standard. However, don't forget to pack a few extras as well as a nice cover-up, like a beach sarong. An extra suit will come in handy while the other one is drying. Pack two or three pairs of comfortable shorts, in light material such as cotton or soft denim. These will be nice for a quick stroll or jog on the beach or for wading. Bring along two or three cotton t-shirts, shirts or tank tops. These should nicely match with the shorts. A few flowery or cotton dresses will also be nice for the evenings. Especially if you want to visit a beachside restaurant or club. If the travel is not to a tropical destination, then the nights could get cold. A light jacket and a pair of trousers will be useful when stepping out in the evening.
A nice pair of flip flops will do for the beach nicely. Add an extra one in case one gets wet or caked with sand. A comfortable pair of sandals for night outs and those fit for walking should also be added to your bag. If you will be doing some hiking on cliffs and boulders around the beach, you may need some sturdy shoes to protect the feet from heated stones and jagged edges.
A nice big beach hat, sunglasses and plenty of waterproof sunscreens is a must. It is even better if you can ensure the sunscreens are environmentally friendly as well.
A nice big beach towel for when you want to relax in the sun or just read a book.
Take extra body towels with you as well, especially if you have a big group along with you.
You can bring your own or if you are heading to a beach with great snorkelling, get some gear for rent. It's one of the few fun things to do in Negombo. Your place of accommodation might be able to let you hire them for the day, places like Heritance Negombo is bound to be a trusted spot for all such beach activities. If not, you can always look out for places that let you hire them on the site of the beach itself. Floating devices will be fun and a safety companion especially if children are involved. Inflatable floaties won't take too much space in your luggage. Also, if there are kids pack their favourite beach toys to keep them entertained.
Frolicking and swimming can make people very thirsty and hungry. So, take a few healthy snacks and plenty of water with you. If you have packing cubes, they will be perfect to carry with you to the beach.
Bring along a laundry bag to pack in all your wet clothes. The last thing you want is water and sand to engulf your beach bag!
