8 Beautiful Mosques in Indonesia – Experience the elegance

The highest Muslim population in the world is in Indonesia, so the fact that this nation has a massive number of mosques is not a big surprise. These mosques belong to different eras and thus contain different architectural styles and designs.

1

Baiturrahman Grand Mosque

This Grand Mosque is located right in the middle of Aceh Province in Indonesia. It was severely hit by the Tsunami back in 2004, but the renovations happened much sooner than expected. When this mosque was first built in 1879, the architects made sure they used the best of all materials such as marble staircases directly imported from China and the Netherlands.

2

Istiqlal Mosque

Did you know that this mosque is the largest in the whole of Southeast Asia? If you are holidaying at a service apartment in Jakarta the likes of Ascott Jakarta, this Grand Mosque is just a 13-minute drive away. This mosque has been visited by several VIPs over the past, including Angela Merkel and Barack Obama.

3

Dian al Mahri Mosque

The main highlight of this massive mosque is its golden dome. Thus, it's also famous as the 'Golden Dome Mosque' among the locals and tourists. This mosque spans across a land area of 50 hectares, and of course, is one of the largest mosques in Asia. If you take a close look at its architectural style, you will realise that it's more into the Middle-Eastern style.

4

Bayur Grand Mosque

It is indeed a mosque with a significant difference. The difference comes with its architectural style because it takes a pagoda style that's common in Thai culture. You will also love everything about its garden because it's well-arranged with water fountains, fish ponds, and lamp posts.

5

Al-Akbar Mosque

Indonesia has many massive mosques, and Al-Akbar Mosque is the third-largest one out of all. You will not be able to count it all, but this mosque has 45 main entrances!

6

Al-Irsyad Mosque

You will never assume that this cube-shaped building is a mosque until you go inside and view it from your eyes. This futuristic architectural design was done by a local architect. If you take a close look at this design once you are there, you will be able to spot some Arabic influences that have been embedded in its exterior praising Allah and his vision.

7

Tiban Mosque

Tiban Mosque is another famous mosque located in a laid-back, yet beautiful village. Don't be surprised if you hear that this mosque was built by the spirits, because that's what the locals believe. Ponds, terraces, and everything there is add to the beauty of this massive mosque.

8

Cheng Ho Mosque

Did you know that there are four mosques in Indonesia to remember the great service rendered by the Chinese admiral Cheng Ho? This is one of these four, and you'll love everything about its oriental architecture. The original architects have not forgotten to embed Chinese cultural details inside this mosque, and they are still available for observation.
