Kandy is a gorgeous hill area in Sri Lanka and is also one of the most ancient kingdoms that existed in the country. Here are a few things you can do to have fun while in this place.

The Temple of the Tooth Relic

Of all the popular Kandy things to do while you are staying in this place, this is the topmost attraction that one must consider visiting. If you are planning your stay at a hotel like Hotel Topaz, then this temple is only a few minutes away. The temple is the most popular and prominent place for Buddhists from all around the country. Located in the northern part of Kandy Lake, this is the resting place of the sacred tooth of Lord Buddha himself. The tooth is in a shrine within a casket of gold and in a structure. The visitors cannot see the tooth itself, but thousands of Buddhist devotees visit the sacred tooth to offer their worship and prayers. Every day, there are rituals during morning, noon and night and you can visit the place during these three times to get a complete cultural experience in Sri Lanka. While there, also make sure you take a look at the Audience Hall, the World Buddhist museum and the area around the temple.

The Kandy Lake

Located right in the heart of the city this lake is not natural. It was built in the year 1870 by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe who was the last known king of Sri Lanka. The lake is a favourite area to hang out for the locals and tourists alike and is surrounded by restaurants, hotels and historical structures. This is a great place for you to chill at and walk around during the evening. There's plenty of things for you to see while you are in the Kandy Lake area.

Knuckles mountain range

It is named as such because the range of mountains resembles the alignment of knuckles when your fist is clenched. This is a breathtaking mountain range and is a delight for any nature lover. The Knuckles mountain range is also home to a variety of different habitats and is filled with incredible biodiversity. The place contains more than 30% of the country's endemic plant species and provides a home for many animals.

Peradeniya Botanical Gardens

Also known as the Royal botanical gardens, the Peradeniya botanical gardens are one of the most popular such places in this part of the world. It is located about 5 km away from Kandy and spreads out for more than 60 hectares. The beautifully groomed garden has more than 4000 kinds of plants from all over the world and these plants include palm trees, spices, medicine and herbs, and has a colourful collection of orchids. This botanical garden is a stunning place to visit and plays a huge role in the conservation and protection of various plant types in Sri Lanka.

The Buddha statue

Located just 1 km away from the city of Kandy, there is a temple that is home to a huge Buddha statue. The statue is about 90 feet in height and the statue can be seen from anywhere in the city.
