Shwedagon Pagoda

Shwedagon pagoda is undoubtedly the most popular attraction in Myanmar and this is definitely on the top of your must-visit places in Yangon. The star-studded pagoda which is said to be around 2500 years old is covered with many glistening gems and stones from rubies to diamonds and many more. This pagoda is a special place for Buddhists from around the world and a sight to see for non-Buddhists.

Sule Pagoda

While you have likely visited many temples and pagodas in Asia you would have experienced a calm and serene surrounding but if you expect to find Sule Pagoda in such an environment you will be surprised. The Sule Pagoda is located in the centre of a very busy city intersection. The pagoda is said to be over 2600 years old but still stands proud and beautiful and the best time to visit the Pagoda is in the morning or evening so you can witness the sunrise or the sunset in line with the Pagoda. Sri Kaali Temple

It was due to the many Tamil migrants that came to the country that the Kaali Amman Temple was built around 1871. The temple is dedicated to the fierce and strong Hindu goddess Kaali who plays an important role in Hindu culture and religion. The Sri Kaali Amman temple is one f the most colourful landmarks in Yangon as there are so many statues, structures, and paintings that bring the place to life.

When in Yangon you must make time to explore the streets on foot. There are so many buildings that belong to the colonial era that blend in with the local architecture. The buildings, the people and the atmosphere is such that you can spend half a day to a complete day walking about, shopping, eating and exploring.
