Doha's Special Dishes - Traditional dishes recommended for you!

Qatar has a huge ex-pat population, thus, there are restaurants serving cuisines from all over the world to suit everyone's tastes. Qatari cuisine, on the other hand, is a vital part of the country's history, and you should probably try several of the local dishes while you are here.

1

Luqaimat

This is the ideal dessert that is soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. This is essentially deep-fried dough that has been soaked in sugar syrup or honey. Luqaimat is an Arabic word that means "bite-sized," and it is a common Arab dish, served particularly during the month of fasting, Ramadan. There are several different methods to create this dish, but the Qataris mostly use milk, butter, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and saffron.

2

Machboos

This is a dish of spiced up rice, which can be served with either seafood or meat, such as beef, chicken, lamb, fish, or camel. It is among Qatar's most famous dishes. To enhance the flavour, some people splash some lemon juice and even some rose water. If the spices in this sauce are just not enough for you, a hot salsa dip can be ordered alongside it. You can try some of these traditional dishes at Doha restaurants in properties like Banana Island Resort Doha by Anantara.

3

Harees

Harees is another famous dish made out of ground or boiled wheat, butter, and beef and has a consistency that reminds one of porridge. It is a common dish in the Gulf Countries, particularly during Ramadan and during festivals. Cardamom and cinnamon are the most common spices for garnishing.

4

Thareed

This recipe is quite similar to a stew pot. It is a combination of vegetables like carrots, potatoes, and beans, which is added to either lamb or chicken. Bread that has been immersed in the stew is put at the bottom of this dish, making it moist and flavourful. It is then all smothered in spices and tomato sauce. You might think of this as a Qatari version of lasagna. Make sure you try out this delicious dish during your time in Doha.

5

Balaleet

This is a savoury meal that has contrasting salty and sweet flavours that can be served as either breakfast or a dessert dish. It comprises fried vermicelli noodles served with omelettes and cooked in sugar, saffron, cardamom, and topped off with a fried omelette. Some people want to top that with a variety of nuts too!

6

Saloona

This is meat or/and vegetable broth that has a spicy kick. There are typically a variety of vegetables including carrots, aubergine, tomatoes, and potatoes in it. It can be consumed on its own or served with some freshly cooked rice.

7

Margoog

This is another famous Qatari dish that is high in fibre and also vitamins. Eggplant, carrots, zucchini, potatoes, tomatoes, and tenderised meat are common ingredients. Once the raw bread dough has been kneaded into a thin crust, it will be cut into bits, and cooked in the stock to absorb all of the flavours.
