  • *### Low FODMAP Diet
    *

FODMAP is an acronym for fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols, or fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols. They are short-chain carbohydrates that are resistant to digestion.

If you have IBS-Irritable Bowel Syndrome, then you should follow a Low FODMAP diet.

Instead of being absorbed into the bloodstream, these carbohydrates reach the end of the intestine, where most of the gut bacteria reside. These bacteria use carbohydrates as their fuel, and as a result, the bacteria secrete hydrogen gas, which causes digestive symptoms.

FODMAPs may also draw fluid into the intestines, which can cause diarrhea. Although most people are not allergic to FODMAPs, this is very common among people with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

    Foods that contain FODMAP include:
Fructose: A simple sugar found in many fruits, vegetables, and table sugar.

Lactose: It is a carbohydrate found in milk and dairy products.

Fructans: It is found in many foods and grains such as wheat, barley, rye and spelt.

Galactan: It is found in large quantities in legumes.

Polyols: a sugar alcohol such as sorbitol, mannitol and maltitol, and it is mostly used as artificial sweeteners.
