This is the first "Brushed by Fame" blog that does not include a brush by an actual famous person. Instead, it's a brush with one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, the Grand Canyon.
Let's take a look at where CVBs stand on Pinterest! Some accounts have reached a few milestones worth noting in this update. *data collected May 30, 2013. Los Angeles has over 30,000 followers now. VisitSavannah Georgia has nearly 25,000 and Pure Michigan will probably be the next DMO to reach 10,000 followers.
There's always a gap in everything you do: the gap between who you are currently are and what you'll one day be capable of. That effing gap. It's the worst thing in the world. You want to cross it and just get it over with, but that's not how it works.

Superman is one of the greatest stories told through motion picture. At least that's the way this girl growing up in the 1970's with three major Superman movies sees it. The latest production, Man of Steel is definitely a cut above the rest, with a story line that has twists and turns, keeping you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
Do you ever find yourself stuck in a "conversation" with someone who is technically delivering a monologue? Have you ever tried to join a conversation or discussion that is being hijacked by one speaker? I call those individuals Chain-talkers and they can be hazardous to healthy communication.

In case you missed my post last week, one of the movies I'm really looking forward to seeing this summer is THE WAY, WAY BACK (in select theaters starting July 5th), starring Steve Carell, Toni Collette, Allison Janney, AnnaSophia Robb, Sam Rockwell, Maya Rudolph, Rob Corddry, Amanda Peet, and Liam James!

Everyone has their favorite summer events - you know, the ones you'll drive hours to attend, the ones that become traditions for your family and friends. But after a lazy summer of outdoor music, local festivals and weekly farmer's markets, what is there to look forward to?
Did you know there is a second Mona Lisa? Yes, and I'm related to the man who found her, Hugh Blaker. Of course, I had no idea about any of this until a couple of hours ago. Here's what happened. Today I went to the National Archives in London with no particular game plan.
Have you ever watched Portlandia? I love that show! It is a laugh out loud satirical comedy that shamelessly mocks some of our "first world issues". Yes.....you can understand why I like it.

Hello, Thank you for stopping by. My name is Jill Browne. I love to travel and to write, and sometimes I edit other people's work. I've put this website together for two reasons. First, as a quick and concise portfolio, and second, as a place to put ongoing notes and observations - a blog in the original, informal, immediate sense of the word.
Short story time: A guy walks into Charlotte International Airport on a flight to LaGuardia. He's flying USAirways, because out of Charlotte, one doesn't have any other choice that costs less than a mortgage.
At work the other day I took a reservation from a guest whose only dietary restriction was a strong aversion to poached or fried eggs on top of her dish. She pointed out that this was becoming rather trendy (it has), and I got to thinking: that wasn't the first time egg non-lovers have mentioned this (disturbing to them) trend.
Have you shopped for a product or service and wondered about the seal of approval displayed on the product or its website? What does the seal mean? If we were to learn that the seal isn't valid or current, or that it was purchased and not deserved on merit, how would we feel?
Originally published as a guest post at http://www.marketinginnovators.com/thought-leadership/blog/ In our last post we noted that smart organizations are actively investing in their people. Measuring the ROI of these investments can be of great value. In short, measurement can help justify, defend and improve these programs. Don't know where to start?
The following was originally posted on TanveerNaseer.com. When I talk to clients about effective goal setting someone invariably mentions that good goals are SMART goals - specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time bound. I agree these are critically important to strengthening goals. But they're not the whole story.
Tim Leffel's new book, Travel Writing 2.0, is probably the most useful "how-to" book about travel writing on the market today. Why?
If you're like me, you may have resisted Facebook for years - I was practically dragged kicking and screaming into joining. In retrospect, I'm really sorry it took me so long because, if you have a blog, a Facebook fan page can be your best friend.
